I have a 1100 Aspencade '83 with digital dash, problem is when the bike has been stood a day or two, when I take it out the indicators do not work, move the switch left or right and nothing!
Then after a mile or so they work fine! I had my local dealer to investigate when I had the carbs balanced but couldnt replicate the fault.
Do any of you clever people out there have any pointers for me?
How old is your battery? A weak battery (or one that won't hold a charge) could be your culprit. The flasher uses a pretty significant amount of power, and at idle, the 1100 charging system is pretty ineffective, so that juice comes off the battery. After you get rolling, the bike's charging system is putting out enough power to allow the flasher to work. As the bike sits unused, the battery could be losing it's charge enough that after starting, there just isn't much left until it gets some miles on it again. You can get flashers that use less wattage, also, but that may be only masking a weak battery.
Yup, just get an electronic flasher from the auto store. One of the first things I did on my 83i. That, and disconnect that silly turn signal cancel box.
