aarrgghh. new water pump purchased an o-ring kit to install all new o-rings including

the oil pump seal. everything ok removed old oil seal scraped it out with picks

and whatever else could fit into the opening to remove the rotted thing, cleaned the

metal backing plate pushed a new oil seal into the opening pressed in the tranny cover

to make sure the water pump shaft turned but, when removing the tranny cover.

the oil seal came out with it on the water pump shaft is this normal?? if not what am i

doing wrong..

The seal must be the wrong size. It should press into the case tighter than it is on the shaft.Did you pre-lube the seal lip?

no not yet. the seals metal housing seems a little puckered maybe i did that trying to

remove a very old and stuck gasket by using carefully using a screwdriver and almost a

hand grenade the damm thing was on there like steel.

should i flatten the round metal housing using a soft same size as the hole rubber

mallet? or?? permatex [on there forever] any suggestions??
