The gl1200 handles better than the gl1100, more noticed at low speed and in the winding mountain roads. I have a gut feeling that the German bike will handle and stop much better because its modern tech and I've seen them tear through tight bends with ease, but the gl1200 should be more comfortable.
If it's touring comfort you want, I think you will be able to go further on the gl1200 before the sore butt and back settles in.
