1200 Clutch Fluid leak

My friends 1200 is loosing clutch fluid and has to refill every week, he says he cant spot any leak in the system im telling him it could be leaking inside the engine.
that is possible right?? how hard is to repair a leak like that, you just buy the seal kit?

He'd have to have a lot of clutch fluid change out before he'd notice a difference in the oil level. (5% of 4 qts is 6.4 oz)

I think that slave cylinder can leak into the engine. However, he'll probably have to replace the unit. I've never heard of a rebuild kit for them.

the seals in slave cylinder fail same as they do in the master cylinder, you have to search but slave cylinder repair kits are available.
here's the sort of thing your looking for as an example.

when seal fails the hydraulic fluid will make it's way into the clutch basket and mix with the engine oil. Another possibility is the bleed valve is not sealing, although any leaks should become visible over time.

Yes, it is possible. It happened to me. The seals in the slave cylinder wear out and fail.
Yes you can fix it. I fixed mine.
The slave cylinder is not very difficult to remove. It's just a tight squeeze to get your hands and your tools in there to remove the bolts.
I did mine when I did my clutch.
I found it gave me a lot more room when I disconnected the entire exhaust system and dropped it down to the ground. It isn't necessary but if you have big hands, it might make a difference.

There is a weep hole in the slave housing like the one in the water pump. You may find your leak there, running down the rear case. Oil can not get into the engine through here. It will most likely be leaking past item 15 as seen in the fiche from Ron Ayers in the above post.
I installed a "speed bleeder P.N. SB8125L" while replacing these seals. In Canada NAPA P.N. 675-1569 for $16.44 / pair. Well worth it, I struggled without them for quite a while, then went parts shopping. They can also be used for your brakes.
These are metric threads, 8mm x 1.25, but you use a 5/16" wrench ... because they're made in U.S.A.
