Yes, it is possible. It happened to me. The seals in the slave cylinder wear out and fail.
Yes you can fix it. I fixed mine.
The slave cylinder is not very difficult to remove. It's just a tight squeeze to get your hands and your tools in there to remove the bolts.
I did mine when I did my clutch.
I found it gave me a lot more room when I disconnected the entire exhaust system and dropped it down to the ground. It isn't necessary but if you have big hands, it might make a difference.
