Can I assume that two engines with sc14e engine codes are both 84's??

Yes, thank you. I see that if the actual serial is in the 24001-24999 range, its an 84.

If I read it right...

based on serials, I have an 84 and an 87. That is precisely what I needed to know.

Thanks!

For what it's worth the 84 engine is easy to identify if you can see it.
It has two sets of wires coming out of the rear case, one set for the stator and the other for the pulse generators, all other years only have the stator wires coming out of the rear case.
