I am trying to re-wire the rear lights on my 1200. A PO installed the conversion kit that makes the two outer lights on the trunk a two bulb set up. One on each side would be a running light (3W) and the other was wired as a brake light (17.9W). The lenses are amber so these outer lights have to be connected as turn signals.

There is a 12V 17W festoon bulb in each side. Festoon bulbs resemble the old glass fuses but the glass bulges in the middle. Like a dome light bulb, but they are only 3W to 5W. These bulbs are also shorter than those available at the local auto parts store. These are 1.5 inches long.

There are two issues. One is that the socket or holder for the festoon bulbs is pretty hokey. It won't grip the bulbs. No spring action. I need to replace those.

The second is finding 17W or 18W bulbs in that style and length to fit the holder installed, new or existing.

What is used in a stock 1200 rear trunk turn signal for bulb and for holder?

Thank you all,

Lyle

Thank you brianinmaine, but I'm looking at the trunk.

I pretty much came to that conclusion over night jwhitmore44.

I have searched the internet, the parts manuals, service manuals and anything else that I thought would have a clue. Without any good clues I decided that there are no lights in the corners of the trunk. The schematics I have show a light that is separate from the 1157s in the center light and called a turn signal. The parts manuals only show a "Stay, Comp., RR" in that area. I was confused. Something that comes easily to me.

I'd like to have the additional turn signal so I guess I need to design and build something that will work but won't melt the lens or the housing.

Thank you much guys,

Lyle

I liked the idea of the trunk corner turn signals. But being the cheap . . . I mean thrifty person I am, I used some LED marker lights. You can get small (about 2 inch x 1 inch) amber marker lights at walmart or any truck stop. I ran my own wiring and tapped in to the turn signals wires under the seat. Brought the wires up under where the trunk light wiring runs. I ran the wires along the inside of the trunk light lens and then out just above it. I used double sided foam tape to attache the LED lights to the trunk just above the trunk lens and to the out side of each latch.
