1200 starter question

Hopped on the bike this morning rode to the store,came out hit the starter and it just spun.I waited for it to settle hit it again engaged no problem.This is the first time this has ever happened,my question is am I on the verge of loosing my starter.Or does it just need a good cleaning.:baffled::baffled:

Yes clean the starter.
Also might be the oil you are using. Too thick and the sprag clutch won't engage. Delo15w40 or Rotella 15w40 is what a lot of members use.
You could also flush the crankcase with a qt of marvel mystery oil for a 200 mile easy rpms ride, go home and change oil and filter while hot to flush out grime in cases and pickup screens.
That is what my 1200 did when I used some Golden Spectro oil with the anti friction additives. Similar to what Newday said, my mechanic had me run a regular Honda 10-30 for 500 miles and change the oil to a regular Honda 10-40. I must have put 60,000 miles on after that and never had any issue with the starter catching.
I just did an oil change I used castrol 10w40,same oil i've always used.but i'll give the starter a good cleaning,don't know much about the marval mystry oiul but i'll read up on it
