I just filled my Goldwing up today and it was nearly $15.00. That's getting a little expensive now. I know all our friends across the pond will say that's still a bargain, but in these parts we're not used to that kind of gas prices. It is currently $2.68/ gal. here.

Hey Paul, I'm not crying. Just pointing out that it's getting a little 'spensive. I also figured I'd get some polical comments but that's not what I was fishing for. I can still afford the damn gas but my boat uses 10-12 gal. per hour and I just might curb some of that for a while and spend more time on my bike.

Marco, some of us have to drive big pickups and the more gas cost the more the cost of goods will go up. The big rigs are suffering as well and when they deliver a load of groceries it's going to cost more. So...it doesn't matter if you drive a Humvee or a Honda 50 it's still going to affect everyone.:action:

And don't blame the current administration. Like someone else said, Blame OPEC if you have to blame anyone.

2.75 So. Ore. Diesel is 2.95! Yikes. Never thot I'd see the day it'd take over 10.00 to fill Wing. 13.00 this morn, at point of low fuel lite coming on. Working on my bycycle, cause it's gonna go over 3.00 soon, and I'm on a limited budget.
So tell me, how does your Wing run on diesel?

Back home gas is ~$0.19/gallon. So I could fill up for less than a dollar there.

If you look at 1970s dollars and compare to today's dollars you'll discover that it's actually cheaper to fill your Wing now than back in the 1970s.

I think gas prices should go up, not down. Maybe it will discourage people from buying and driving those ridiculous SUVs and trucks.
I agree with you that in today dollars it is cheaper to fill your bike. And I agree about ridiculous SUVs which some only get about 13 mpg and when you see them there is only one person riding in them. But not all trucks are ridiculous, some of us use them for what they were designed for, to haul loads that cars or bikes can't. Also a modern PU can surprise you on gas mileage, my 01 Silverado will cosistantly get 18 mpg driving around town and 22.5-23 on the interstate @ 70 mph, which compared to my 1965 IH Scout with the slant 4 and weighed in at about 2600 lbs only got 18 mpg anyway you drove it, or my 1960 Chevy PU with a modern drive train (350 CI, FI, 4 SP OD Auto, 4 Wheel Disk Brakes) could only get a best of 16 mpg highway and about 12 in town. If I could afford to buy a Toyota or Nissan which could haul or pull as much as my Siverado, and get better mileage, which although according to Nissan it can out pull my truck, and I drove one and I know it can't, and if their mileage was better which they're not I would buy one. I like my truck, it doesn't carry a lot all the time, but it's comfortable, reliable, good looking, and when I'm ready to work, it's ready. And compared to most cars, it gets pretty good mileage, and it can haul the bike if it breaks, which it won't fit in the trunk of any modern car. JMHO:D

You're not seeing the big picture... I don't see any reasonfor someoneto drive a big pickup other than having to use it for his/her business to haul big loads. If you need it to haul toys - well... you shouldn't be complaining when you have to put $75 or $100 in the tank. Same for your gas-hungry boat. But I certainly don't want to subsidize your toys!

Did you know that for every gallon of gas that you burn you release about 25 pounds of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere? America only holds 5% of the world's population, but America releases 25% of the world's CO2. Something to think about in terms of global warming.

Why not use rail to transport durable goods instead of all those damn trucks. It's many times cheaper in terms of fuel used. Yes, perishable goods will still have to be transported by truck in most cases.

You say don't blame the current administration.Blame OPEC? Let's see... Who's in bed with the Saudis and has been for the last 20-30 years? Oh, I know... the Bush family!!! Who just signed the pork-barrel energy bill with oil giveaways? - Oh, I know... Bush! Who's making the record profits and also benefiting from the oil subsidies?- Oh, I know... Bush's cronies in the oil industry!

"It took the world 125 years to use the first trillion barrels of oil... it will only take 30 years to use the last trillion." This is not a quote from some environmental group - this is a quote from the Chevron oil company last month.

Oil prices need to go up to encourage people to seek other ways of transporting goods, seek efficient personal transportation, and for generating energy. Americans won't do it from the kindness of their hearts - it has to affect the pocketbook. Oil prices in the US are artificially low because of oil subsidies... why not stop the subsidies and charge the real price of oil? Don't you think people would be encouraged to conserve if they had to pay the real price at the pump? If I ride a bicycle to work and grow my own vegetables why should I have to pay for your SUV gas bill and subsidize the trucking industry? Pay as you go is what I say.

You say the price of food will go up with higher gas prices. Initially maybe so (but not much... when you figure price per pound it's not much), but when markets start using rail instead of trucks for non-perishable or semi-perishable food the prices should actually go down. Even if fuel prices were 4 times what they are now rail would still be cheaper than what it costs to transport by truck now. Yeah, maybe you'll have to pay more for produce from California or Florida, but maybe, just maybe it will give aa competative edgeto the small farmer in your area? Local produce is fresher, tastes better, and is better for you than the stuff that traveled from CA or FL or Chile or Argentina or Mexico.

Man, leave it to Liberal Oregon to come up with this tripe. If you will read my post, I only said that it's getting a little expensive. It was just a comment on the changing world. I'm not crying as Paul said, I'm only stating the damned obvious. How do you figure you're subsidizing me? I pay my own way. It's a sad state of affairs when you can't even post a simple comment on here without someone going political, or worse.

Oh, and get over it. The election is over. And...my pickup gets 10 MPG. How do you like that?

You know I'm right... the more we ignore it the worse it will get.

Just to let you know... back when I was in the service (spent 21 years in the Air Force) I was a Republican.

Then I opened my eyes.

A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."
The woman replied, "Your are in a hot air balloon approximately 30 feet above the ground. You are between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude."
"You must be a Democrat, " said the balloonist.
"I am," said replied the woman. "How did you know?"
"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I am still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help so far."
The woman below responded. "You must be a Republican."
"I am," replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?"
"Well," said the woman, "you don't know where you are or where you are going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault."

Thanx:waving:

I think it is pretty simple accually... If you want to own a big truck (as I do), then you need to gas it up....

I can sum it up in one word....quitcherbitchin:grinner::goofygrin::grinner:

I could sum it up in two words but the moderator wouldn't like the language. You guys totally read my post wrong...typical. That's fine. I don't need to post stuff here because if my bike breaks I take it to a professional. I just enjoyed reading and participating.

Since I'm being subsidized I'm going to take my boat out this weekend after all. Maybe burn 2 or 3 hundred gallons. Thanks for the subsidy guys. :jumper:

Brojees, It runs fine on 5% diesel. Slight smoke. Love that diesel smell LOL. A little oversight (stupidity), one fine day. Maybe that's why it knocks a hair, now. It misses the Diesel. LOL

Well, I know I didn't vote for GW Bush. Hmmmmm, let's see.... President is an oil man. Vice President is an oil man.........

But this great site isn't and shouldn't be about politics so I better stop there.

I dont think any political debate is appropriate here. Maybe y'all should meet, order up a cool one, and debate to your hearts content.

The only debate that we should take time for, on this forum is mineral vs synthetic.

Sorry guys, just my 2 cents worth.

I guess i dont want to read that kind of rubbish on this forum either. :whip:So lets march on to the next topic. :weightlifter:
