The exhaust tips on my 90 1500 are starting to rust through.
Are there replacement tips that are reasonable or should I replace the mufflers? The mufflers seem to be in decent shape, just tips are rusting through, or is that a signal that the mufflers are also getting thin?
Some sites offer what are called slip-on mufflers, and they are chrome and have the correct fitment brackets,
Just looking for some input to help decide what to do.

I will be watching this thread because I am in a similar spot. It's not my tips but the angled part that the tips attach to that are rusting out. I am leery of purchasing used because of ending up with the same propblem but brand new, they are so expensive. I am considering aftermarket and found these on ebay: http://tinyurl.com/ql23a5
They seem reasonable otherwise I am considering the Torq Masters with baffles: http://www.chromeworld.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=catalog.catalog&categoryID=104 Either way, they are a lot less than stock

I see so many different GL1500 tips in the aftermarket world. Three-pipe-look turn-downs, straight-back as well as factory-look replacements.

I'd think the EZ answer is just buy a set of tips or turn-downs somewhere, and enjoy life again.

While you're dropping the rear pipes for this operation, you may want to buy two replacement gaskets. Bikebandit has them for $6 each. They're kinda "asbestos-like" material.

As they degrade, your wing gets a little noisier but its gradual and you don't notice it. Then they're replaced, and Viola, it sounds just like it should again.

I found a pair of MAC mufflers at Dennis Kirk for $275.
Most of the tips were over $150 so I just figured for the difference I'd get the works. I was told that they come with "everything you need" to install em.These Mac mufflers are triple chromed, and are straight with slash cut ends. Ordered today, supposed to be here thursday- free UPS shipping. Honda replacements were $300 per side. I'm going to save the originals and see if I can figure out something with them.:

I just replaced my mufflers on my '96 last week with a set of '07 HD Dekker pipes for $100.00. Mellow tone at idle & low speed, can't hear them at highway speed. had to make a pair of 45* adapters ( 3/4 " exhaust from Canadian Tire up here) $20.00) to come off the collector box. fastened to my trailer hitch with 2"hose clamp. You can find new pipes on ebay for good prices. :waving::waving:
