I`m getting ready to put the new mother Honda water pump on my '98 S.E. Just checking it over I noticed it has cellophane tape at the bigger water outlets. It was clear tape, and could be easily overlooked by anyone in a hurry to put a new pump on. I removed the tape. Is there any reason for the tape to be there?

I remember reading somewhere years ago that was done for the "production environment" and ease of installation on the assembly line and removal will not hurt anything, and in fact, removal is probably the preferred method of installation...

+1... Remove the tape, as it reportedly enables the hoses to slide off.

The factory likes the tape as the hoses slide on and off easier. However the tape also causes leakage a few years later after the warranty has expired.
