Has anyone got any advice on using a 1500 rear wheel on a 1200. I know it can be done but would like to know if there are any problems.

I install a 1500 rearend into my 85 Interstate. It helps to have a full platform lift, and not just a Larin lift. Make sure to order a new oil seal for the drive shaft. You may also have to get a smaller tire. The one for the 1200 will not fit. Your old brake caliper will work, as well as the axle bolt and nut.

Check out http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/forum1/67714.html. This describes what I did to get it tofit. If you look at the pictures linked at the bottom, you will see why you need the smaller tire.:gunhead:

My friend Ed installed a GL1500 final drive and wheel on his GL1200. He tells me it was an easy swap. His GL1200 cranks lower RPM's than before at a given speed.
