I had a gel pad and air bag firtted in to my 95 seat several years ago. It is quite comfortable but now the seat and backrest covers are showing their age. Does anyone have experience with having their seat recovered? DIY or sent out?

If you don't fancy doing it yourself, I woudl recommend that you contact June's upholstery. They specialize in bike seats.
I got my seat recovered complete with back rests and the side pockets for my GL1100 a couple of years ago. Their rates were reasonable and the workmanship was top notch.

I have a couple good stock backrests (passenger) in my storage and also a passenger backrest cover (stock) that was removed and replaced with a fabric type cover if you want to do it or have a local shop to put it on. I'll double check them later this morning that they are all for the 1500. I know one of the backrests are off my 99.
