After hot rodding the bike around locally and getting about 36mpg I was pleasently surprised to get 40 to 44 mpg riding more "normally" on a road trip. Bob

That seems pretty typical mileage. I can pretty well bank on about 40mpg, a little more on road trips. Got the around the same with my 1986 SEI.

My mileage on the 99SE has never disappointed me. I have owned a GL1000 for three years and I owned a couple different GL1200;s

40-42 seems to have been the norm with some lows to 35 with sustained speeds over 80- indicated mph.
