I have a chance to trade my 1100 Virago for a 1975 Wing. it has been well cared for and the carbs have been redone. it has some hesitation when idling.

Are there anything I should look for by way of trouble. Did this Wing have a bad STATOR??

The carbs were never 100% perfect on the gl1000 (compared to later Wings), but no stator problems that I know of.

Hi Scott and welcome to the site, I will leave the official welcome to the "official welcoming committee"

I had two 1000gl wings and never had particular problems. Both needed jobs doing over the years, but no recurring problems.

They are a nice bike and relatively easy to work on, plus, for those who like to, they can be personalised more than the dressers that came after.

Never had the pleasure of riding the 1100 Virago, so can't advise on the differences in ride etc. Perhaps someone on here has experienced both.

Plenty of folks will chip in given time on the whys and wherefores of the 1000.

Happy riding if you decide to trade and you will find this site a pleasure to visit, for advice or fun.

Again welcome, from over the pond.:waving:

Thank you for the info. I am fairly sure I will get the Wing, the reason being as follows:

a] Much langer and more streched out

b] Yes I already have some ideas of personal touches. I think a Wing with out a fairing, but with some bags looks really great.

c] easy maintence and there is lot's of prats.

I saw a man with a 1981 with 1986 Aspencade read bags. The bike had a clear windshield and long fish tail pipes.. it looked very nice.

Anyway, I look forward to being a part of this forum if the bike comes through.

Scott :1000yellow: the bike is actually yellow. Been repainted to this color.

The stator problems were not a big problem untill the 1200s came out and had some problems that were solveable. I don't recall anyone having really any problems with the stators on 1000s, other than someone has mentioned that one of the wiring connector blocks coming from the stator was bad for connection problems, but that is common to all the 4 cylinder wings. This problem could be fixed by cutting out the block and solder the connectors together.:D

What I love about the early \wing are the unique fuel gauge, also the wire spokes.

Youhave done a great job on yours. Love the color.

The one I am looking at is Yellow, and I have a line on fairings and bags if I want. But I think maybe just the bags, and a windshield.

Scott. Once I get it, hopefully, I will post a picture
