Wanting info on removal and reinstall of starter. Have new starter w/ new gear, worried about removal of starter and old gear, new gear very loose on starter shaft, no set screw to hold in place!!! how does old one come out? I know it sits in chain, do not want it to drop inside case!!! any good ideas? Thank you , Bruce

There are many discussions here about starter removal Bruce, the search box will pull up more than enough to keep you reading awhile. If you put the bike on the side stand just before you pull the starter out, the drive sprocket won't be able to roll out of the chain and into the engine.

Like Joe says, leaving the bike on the side stand will keep the sprocket in the chain. On the side stand, you will lose a small amount of oil when you pull the starter.
