i have purchased carb rebuild kits for my 1980 gl1100. i stripped the carbs down before the kits arrived. my problem is that i removed the press fit(do not have an o-ring on them) slow jets, and the kits came with screw in slow jets! i'm wondering if i can purchase the press fit jets anywhere??? the other option is i have a set of carbs off an 82 gl1100(has screw in slow jets) but the cross shafts are pretty loose on these carbs! can i purchase a kit to repair the loose cross shafts?

Why not just clean the jets and put them back in ? Thats what I did and it worked fine.

Good luck Tom

i damaged the first one i tried to remove. the other three i could re-install, but i'm pretty sure the damaged one will not work.

I'm not sure what kind of damage it sustained, but if my memory serves me right the only hole that realy counts is the tinyone dead center on bottom. The other part can be damaged and still work properly.

Just some thoughts Tom

its the hole straight through it that i'm concerned about. i may try to straighten it out with a small drill bit if i cant find any new ones! this deal really just irritates me! i just got in too big of a hurry! lol! thanks for your input!!! i wasn't even concidering using the originals again....but i may have to!

Hey Dusty 6700, I had a problem with my slow jets being clogged, soak them over night in carb cleaner and use a wire off a wire brush to clean that bottom hole out and high pressure air , It worked like a charm for me...Use a easyout tool bit to remove the slow jets and tap them back in with the same tool or bit... don't drill it, if the bit were to brake off in the hole your really in trouble..

NO they are not available as they are not supposed to be removed..but you can tap the carbs and screw in the new ones or maybe see if the screw in ones will wedge into the tube w/o the threads working..the o rings for should work to hold it in place or tap/notch the edge of the tube once the jet is in so it can't come back out..just some ideas from a backyard wrencher.

Got a caliper tool measure..the jet diameters they maybe the same just threaded???

The screw-in jets are for an 83, 1980, 81 & 82 had press fit slow jets. I would not try to retrofit 83 into a 82 carb, asking for trouble. If you search this board I discussed how to remove and clean the slow jets few years ago. If you are in need of one slow jet drop me a PM with your address and I'll mail one to you, I have a couple from salvaged carbs.
