I know that OEM calls for a rear tire size of 130/90-17 but can I use any bigger size? The tire I have on it is a bridgestone and it has lasted about 8,000 miles but I was looking for something a little bigger that would clear. Any ideas? If so what size and brand do you think are good for this year?

I have also heard that I can only use bias ply and not radial but I am not sure on this either?

Thanks for any help in advance.

I remember seeing a 1980 GL1100 (same size wheels as the GL1000) with 140 section Avons, but I don't know if they would work in the GL1000 as they are tubeless.

Thanks for the post. I just bought a s11 bridgestone 130/90-17 original size. Getting it mounted today. Will be back on the road in no time. Well if the rain stops here in Michigan that is.

Hi BRLYON, unless you have changed wheels to cast, you will need tubes in your tires. Under no circumstances can you use a radial on a 1000. Only the 1800's are made for them.
