The speedo on my 1981 Interstate quit working. The cable was okay as I tried a good cable from my parts bike and the speedo still doesn't work. How do you remove the speedo in the easiest fashion with the fairing in place? I have a speedo that I can use, but can figure out how to remove the current one with the fairing in the way? Thanks!

Sometimes when I wonder what is holding something together I get on Bikebandit.com and look at the parts catalog. Has pretty good pictures. I'm sure there's other sites too.

You unhook the speedo cable then there are 2 10MM nuts underneath if you undo those you can lift it out. I took mine off to oil it and I don't remember if the fairing was on or not. I'm preety sure you don't need the fairing off. :action:

I recently replaced a speedometer on my 1981 Interstate. I did so with the fairing on. There were some wires in the old speedometer that I spliced to the new one. 2 nuts and you are there.... not too bad...
