1982 Goldwing GL 1100 "Hiccups" at low RPM's

Hi folks. This is my first time here. This is an impressive site. I have a 1982 GL 1100 with 45000 miles on it. I just did a lot of maintainence work on it. Super cleaned the fuel system with different carb cleaners, new plugs, adjusted valve clearences, new this and that, etc. This "hiccup" problem only happens occasionally from idle (1000 RPM) to about 2200 RPM. More so when the engine is cooler. It is an occasional noise you can hear and feel that the engine makes. Once you get past 2200 RPM the engine is as smooth as can be. You can take the engine all the way up to 6500 RPM on the Freeway and this Hiccup (I call it that) doesn't occur. In fact my GL 1100 runs and feels like it did when it was brand new. I made sure the gas in the tank doesn't have any carb cleaner in it anymore, and tried different octane fuels. When my cycle was at a local Goldwing repair shop getting new tires, I pointed this noise out to one of the owners and he waived his hand around to gesture for me not to worry about it. Anyone know if other GL 1100's do the same thing? After the engine is warmed up, you can stop at say 3 or 4 stop lights and when you throttle up the engine power is smooth with no funny noises. Then stop at another light, take off, and then comes one or two of these hiccups until you exceed 2200 RPM. Any responses will be appreciated. Thanks. Best Regards, Ken Pritz

Kpritz, my 84 Aspencade does the same thing. I always refered to it as "chuffing" but hiccup works too. If I tweak the choke I can make it disappear and once it warms up it is gone. I just assumed it was normal when it was cold. By the way welcome to a great forum full of great people who know what they are talking about (except maybe for the deeer alert thread - maybe you shouldn't read that one until you are confident about the true abilities of the people on this site, then read it when you have a day to waste. lol) Randy

now any topic that has over 1200 replies and thousands of lookie sees cannot be all bad.... accept I do not believe we answered the question about whether they work or not

Rcmatt007, never stated it was bad at all, just didn't want a new member to start to doubt the sanity of all the very knowledgable people on this site. LOL

I had this problem on my 81 GL1100. It was the sliders sticking causing a lean condition. I have it about 95 percent fixed but it still occurswhen cold. After 3-4 minutes it is gone and runs like a champ.

Might be worth taking a look.
