I have a 1982 Interstate with about 80,000 miles on it. I say about because my second speedo has died he same horrible death as the first, grinding and needle jumping all over the place. I have decided to go with a Trailtech Vapor digital dash but would like to keep the self canceling feature of the turn signals. Does anyone know what the speedo sends to the turnsignal switch to cancel? I should be able to replicate it electronically if I knew what the signal was.

Also, what forks will interchange with the 82? I know the upper tubes are the same OD from 80 to 83 but I am wondering about the brake mounting and axle. Would the TRAC forks from an 83 fit and if so is it possible to connect the existing brake system to the TRAC?

Thanks for all your help,

I have never taken a 1980-82 speedo apart, but I am sure it is purely mechanical. The speedo also alerts the rear shock pressure as a red light in the tach lights up on low pressure over 15 mph.

I am curious about this Trailtech digital speedo........

It IS purely mechanical and many can be made to function well with a little lube inserted into the back. I fixed mine that way 5 years ago. No more grinding and erratic readings. As far as the forks, I have 83 Interstate Tracs on my 82. The Aspencade forks will work but are a little different from Interstate forks and require Aspencade brake mounting hardware. The calipers will work with the 83 mounting hardware. The calipers mount a little lower, so your brake lines will be stressed when the forks extend. I used it that way for a year then fitted custom brake lines that are about an inch longer than stock. The 83 forks with built in fork brace are an improvement over 82.
