Is there anyway to improve the 1983 GL1100 front end. Rides hard, really hard. Seals don't leak yet, so I hadn't rebuilt them.

yep--there is away. drain and flush your forks. use the #1 setting on the anti dive when you flush them out. even with progessive springs your forks should work and not be hard. could it be that there is too much fluid in the forks ? have you made sure that you dont have a bent tube ?

The TRAC stuff should have nothing to do with normal riding I don't think. It only works when you apply the brakes. If your front end is real hard then maybe too much oil, wrong oil, or something gummed up in the damper valves. My 83 with TRAC rides real nice, and I have the setting for the TRAC in the middle position.

I bought the bike last summer with 61K miles. I guess that it is possible that the tubes are bent, but the condition of the bike indicates that it never crashed.

I am thinking that the oil inside the tube is no good. Can you change the oil easily?

:cheeky1:yes and no---it can be drained easey enough ---but getting it back in may or may not be easey. to do the flush right you`ll have to block the front tire off the ground , take off the front wheel , take off the spring caps , take out springs , pour in your flushing agent and work the fork up an down a few times and drain it. . than do it again just to make sure you get the crap out good. . conation here ---put a rag over the top of the tube when working up an down. gettes messey if you dont. be sure and let it drain , like over night. so do each side and let her drain. any who---- thats the short version . oh i use atf as a flushing agent. and 15 weight fork oil back in. hope this dont discourage you from doing it. just do it right the first time and for get it for a long while.
