New member. :waving:Just purchased and I need to have the location so I may replace them.I understand that the timing belt may also be replaced at the same time. Any help will be appreciated.

Socman, Mr.1200 explained it- here's a partial scan of the service manual..

Good one Twisty...

Remember to very lightly coat the threads of the mount bolts with antiseize.. I've done several of these jobs and it seems the moisture gets into the belt area even though it's covered and corrosion settles in on the threads.

The PG's will only go on one way so be sure to seat them on the mount pads correctly.. If not, you will bend the tabs when you tighten down on the bolts. :tutut:

socman, do you have the procedure for testing the pulse generators or do you know for certain that they are not functioning properly? I'd hate to see you spend good money on something you may not need.

socman, just in case you don't have the info handy-- The spec on those Pulse Generators is-- 1100-1300 ohms at around 68°f..

Also, IF you need to replace them MAKE SURE the wire pigtails are very clear of that moving belt or you will be doing it again.

Thanks for the info on the belts. The wing runs fine for 3 miles then dies. Wait an hour and it starts then runs 3 more miles. Great for rides around the block. Your forums helped me narrow down the possibilities. All the other fixes were completed. This is the last one. Thanks.Ray

Thanks the pic makes it look easy but the body armor in that location will take time. Great help. Thanks Ray

Thanks for the heads up. I checked all the other possibles and the fixes. This is the only remaining kink not fixed. Great info and help. Thanks Ray

Good luck and I hope you get the problem resolved so you can do some serious riding.

Hi socmanand welcome to the board. The symptoms you describe are exactly what happens when the PG's fail. Just be thankful you don't have an 84 model, the PG's are on the back of the engine on the 84 and it's an engine out to replace them.

Actually Norman, you don't have to take the engine out to replace them on an 84 and you don't have to remove the engine to replace the clutch either. You just remove the back tire assembly and swingarm to gain access.
