Hi all,

I would like to know if anyone else experienced this or can try it. I had my brakes on and tried to blow the horn and it didn't blow. Let the brakes off, pushed the horn button and it blew. My battery voltage with the brake lights on is 11.9 with fan running at an idle. Reved up the engine, voltage on the battery came up fine but still no horn blowing with the brake lights lit. I don't know how much voltage the horn needs to blow, it should blow with a lower than 12 volts. Maybe I need to replace the horn.

Anyways, can someone else try this test before I tare into the bikes electrical.

Sounds as though there may be a new battery in your future. With the brake lights and engine fan running, there isn't enough reserve capacity in the battery to work the horns. That, and at idle you don't have enough output form the alternator to make-up the batterys lacking.

The battery is only a few months old. My charging system seems to be charging strong. When tooling down the road, I am holding 14.5 volts, 14.4 with the fan running going down the road.

Check you horn connection. I have an 1800 and the horn at times would not work. Clean the connection and try it. Horn problems blow, don't they!
