I have a 1986 GL 1200A that no longer runs smooth. The yellow wires and the rectifier/ regulator is getting very hot. I checked for shorts in the harness and tested the altenator and rectifier/regulator with an ohm meter, all appear to be good????? Thanks for any help to get this michine back to normal.

Welcome to the forum, the rec/reg will get verywarm as it tries to sink the exess voltage and dissapate heat. It really shouldn't get hot, check the nylon connector plugs at the rec/reg and also by the battery. If you see signs of heat/discoloration, cut the plugs out and hard-wire.

Many will remove the plugs just for preventive measures. The 1200's biggest weakness,(JMO), is the charging system... :gunhead:

Check this post for examples...
