Hello everyone.I am working on a friends 1986 gl1200 interstate.I'm having trouble finding the pulse generaters. The manual shows them to the rear in 1984 and in the front after that.I don't see wires going into the timing cover nor do I see wires near the driveshaft.I've unplugged the cdi module and tested the pgs and yellow and yellow/white are open.Am I missing something?

Hello and Welcome . I do not have experience with a 1200 . On the 1100 the Pulse Generator is located at the rear of the engine in the center ,between the driveshaft and the stator housing . The 1100 PG has the wires exit out of the bottom of the cover plate ,and run the wires up the left side of the frame to a connector just in front of the battery . I would expect the 84 to be similar .
AS you said they moved to the front of the engine after that point .

If the later 1200s are similar to the 1500 which followed it , the PG is located on the front of the engine . They are operated by the trigger wheel mounted on the crankshaft . On the 1500 the wires exit from under the timing cover at the top near the center .
IF you can post your question in the Technical Forum section ,you will have more exposure and the 1200 GURU will soon be able to offer better help .

Most new members don't realize that the Steve Saunders Goldwing Forum is much like an extended family and as such we like to get together on various occassions to renew old friendships and make new ones. For example, each year we put together a huge celebration called the North American Steve Saunders International Rally (NASSIR). Unfortunately you've just missed NASSIR 6 in Simcoe, Ontario however there is plenty of time to plan on attending NASSIR 7 which is being held in Fontana Dam, NC on July 8-10, 2014. If you want additional information please follow this lnk and it well take you to a dedicated information page for the event! Welcome aboard!!!
