We have a 88 GL1500 that the neutral light won't come on and reverse won't engage. It will start, checked clutch fluid and battery, all fuses are working. Oh, thanks for the add.

Hi, you've been added to the jungle. Please tell us more about yourself, like where you dwell and a riding history, etc. You know, friendly chatter.

As far as the bike goes. My first question is; does it start even without the neutral light, or only with the clutch pulled in?

Sounds a bit like the reverse switch is possibly going "bad". Move the reverse lever to engage/disengage a few times with ignition off to see if that'll fix the sticky switch.

Hardluck, Read the attached file. You will understand how the "neutral light" functions.

PS: The "neutral light" has nothing to do with the starting circuit on your 1988 Gold Wing.

Note: If your reverse lever switch is bad/faulty/misaligned etc. you will not have a neutral light and your reverse will not work.

The first item to check is the reverse lever switch...!

Let us know if you need a "tip" for testing the reverse lever switch.
