As long as it has properly cared for, a Goldwing does much better with more miles (lots of use) than too much time sitting idle. As mentioned above, things to check or at least ask him about since he is a friend.
The carbs have small passages and there are lots of sensor things. Sitting too long, especially with the water (alcohol) laden fuel we have can be hard on them and plug stuff up. That is one reason NOT to le the mileage scare you off.
