Hey need some help . I have 1990 honda goldwing 1500se. Having trouble out alternator put brand new one on it it lasted about 50 miles went out again .when I out new one on it heats up very fast before motor ever gets hot .is that normal?Or sound like a short somewhere? Any help be appreciated

I think those alternator have built in regulator so yours must have failed,not sure though,there will be a knowledgeable member here soon.

My old 1500 alternators would get too hot to touch under normal conditions fairly quickly..

That is because they are cowled in so tight, they can't get any cooling air.

I think you answered your own question. I would bet the alternator is shorted internally. Bring it back and tell them I said so. 😎

If it was "New" not just new to you after 50 miles its a warantee claim

Jimmy, I have a couple of questions for you to answer:

1. Are you sure the original alternator failed...???

2. If so, how did you know...??? Need more details.

3. When you installed the new alternator, did all of the electrical circuits work (during that first 50 miles or so) such as (headlights, turn signals, horn, brake lights etc).

4. Did you check power output from the new alternator after installation....???

There is a reason why I ask these questions. Please answer each question.....!!

You could have received a bad alternator...OR...You could have another issue.....

Based on your answers, we can make more suggestions/recommendations....!!!!
