I have two projects left before the ol' girl starts going back together. Kinda near each other so I'll start with the shift shaft seal. It appears if I remove the left header the seal replacement may be easier...any pointers? Second is the little metal piece about 8" long that is trapped between the header and the kickstand. Any sneaky ways to remove this part, paint is peeled, part is heavily rusted and needs attention, short of dropping the left header? Are there gaskets between the header and cylinder head that I should replace? Ahhh make that three projects, replace fork oil. Tia, Rick.

You should be able to replace the seal with the header fitted. The short painted piece is another matter and very difficult to get out without bending it and damaging the paint. I think you will need to drop the header for that.

And yes there are exhaust manifold donuts that will need replacing.
