1996 GL1500 quitting while riding

I have a 96 GL-1500 with 66,000 miles and it stops running while riding it. It feels like I have ran out of gas but does it with any amount of fuel in the tank. I can ride it for days and for different lengths of time and then all of sudden it starts to loose power and when I pull in the clutch to gear down it dies but restarts when I release the clutch. After about a minute ofchugging and sputtering it shuts off and will not run again but after it sits for about 90 to 120 minutes it will fire up and runs like no problem in the world until the next time. I have just changed the petcock fuel valve and the fuel filter.

Anyone else ever have this problem or heard of it before? If so what was the cure? My wife is getting tired of being stranded by the side of the road.

Thank you in advance for your help -

Carl

Always start with the least expensive. Clean the tank, put in new gas, and add some seafoam for a tank. I hope this helps but it sounds more like a fuse going bad or the fuel pump as it heats up.

In my opinion, fuel pump could be a direction to look. I have had them periodically cut out when going bad.

Make sure your Bank Angle Sensor has been replaced under recall. Give the VIN to your service dept and have them check that for you.

A friend of mine had a similar problem and it was the fuel pump. When it got tired of running it would quit, then when it cooled down it would fire up. This would be what i would try ( after i cleaned the tank out and made sure there was no trash in it)

I've seen the old petcocks get put together with the rubber spacer with the holes in the wrong place, do that. jimsjinx
