Hey Gentlemen,

It started with a little oil on the left fork tube. They have about 30k since the last time I replaced them. I was considering waiting to replace the seals over the winter, but it seamed to get worse over a few weeks. I take the bike on long rides so didn't want to get stuck far from home. Took the forks off and brought them to my local Honda dealer where they charged me $185 for the labor and another $75 for the kit. (Yes, my ass is still sore!) Here is where it gets good. I'm about 300 miles from home and the left fork seal explodes after hitting a bump! Fork fluid everywhere. Wheel, brakes, motor, boots, pants, jacket, sunglasses, helmet and face. Limp home after cleaning up mess and call dealer. Before I can finish my sentence he tells me the tubes are bad and not his workmanship. "Bring it in for another round of backdoor fun." I live in northern NJ and the dealerships are going under like flies. The two that remain are poor at best. Is there anyone out there that can recommend a honest mechanic that knows Goldwing repair for this problem and future work? Any recommendations would be highly appreciated. Scope Down bee8ch

Sorry for your troubles, Brother...I hate being treated like that. Instead of simply admitting their failure to properly clean the groove and seat a circlip they blame your bike!

Hopefully a nearby member here can suggest someone who isn't an *sshole or can help you do it. Good Luck!

Surely if the "tubes were bad" as the dealer stated on the phone, he would have been able to have told you that whilst they were in the process of rebuilding them. Complete BS from them and another customer lost to their incompetence.

On the positive side, it shouldn't need a Goldwing specific mechanic to do the job properly. Any good local mechanic should be able to do the job for you. If you can remove and put back the forks themselves, this will of course save a fair bit of money and really isn't that difficult to do.

I wish you luck, especially after your experience of terrible customer service.

Get yourself the Fred Harmon DVD's and you will be able to do it yourself.
They give the number 903-455-2555 ext 10 to order.
I am NOT mechanical enclined, but with this DVD set you will see why even I can work on the 1800.
