2008 GW decel surge

I have an 08 GW that upon deceleration the RPM is drops and surges. Seemsit is trying to shut down and will drop to 500 rpm and them surge up to 1000 before stabilizing. Seems to really get unstable below 1500 rpm. If I let the transmission decel the bike (no clutch) there is not problem. When I have to downshift the rpm seems to be trying to fall before I can downshift causing a problem in acceleration and shift after I downshift.Twice itthe rpm has surged on me when I was braking. It is at a dealer now who expectedly says this is normal and nothing is wrong.Another GWdriver says his does that. DAH!!! I claim this is not right for a properly operating FI system.

Does anyone have this problem? Are they all like this? Comments please as I intend to go to HONDA with this.

OH YES, I am coming from a Valkyrie Interstate that was absolutely wonderful!

I've never had that problem on mine.

That sounds like a problem with the idle control valve.

I test rode an 1800 for one full day. It never, ever acted like that. It always did just exactly what I expected it to do.,

The 1800 is an awesome machine and that problem is not normal, don't accept that crap from the dealer, go to another.

Try the ECM initialize as that solves many issues. Disco nect the battery fora minute and when you reconnect it, start the engine without touching the throttle. Let it warm up fully before touching the throttle and see if that fixes the problem.

FitzAl's comment above is a good one for those issues involving the motor. Wish to add that the cooling fans should cycle three times to be sure the ECM is really set.

I can't agree more that this a warranty issue as well. Contact the Honda District Sales or Service manager and raise hell.

Lastly, my 07 willskip or bumpon occasion on slow down, but is a very minor issue with me. This does not effect my down shifting as I rev the motor each time.
