2012-13 Trailer Hitch Question

3476 Views 21 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Fender60
I am having real difficult time deciding which trailer hitch to order for my 2012. For those of you that own a 2012 or 13 GL1800, what hitch did you go with? Bustec looks good but very expensive, Rivco, Add On, Show Chrome? Kury will not be available until the end of the month and I have a trip planned before then.

The place I ordered my trailer from sells hitches, http://1motorcycletrailers.com/motorcycle-trailers.html but I have no idea what brand they are?

I've got a 2013 wing and just installed the Kury. They are available from Dennis Kirk and others. The install was actually easier than I thought. I did have an issue with the wiring portion. I bought my hitch through the dealer I bought the bike from and asked for the wiring needed. Turns out there is an additional plug needed to make things work. Have it ordered and hope to have it today. I think Dennis Kirk has Kury stuff on sale for 10% off through today, that would put the hitch under $250.

Good luck!

I just installed a Bushtec on my 2010 1800, I don't think there is that much difference between the 2010 and 2012 hitches. If you compare all the hitches available for your bike you will see why Bushtec and Rivco are a better hitch. They have 6 attach points and are connected to the frame of the bike. I went with the Bushtec because you can change the rear tire without laying the bike over on it side. As far as your wiring I would go with Electrical Connections set up, easy plug and play. Check out Wingstuff for there prices on the hitches.

I installed that same hitch on a 12, not too bad but couldn't make those flat bars fit like the instructions said.
I don't know what the difference between the 2010 and 2012 is for sure but I do know the Kury hitch for the 2010 is a vert receiver and for the 2012 it's horz.

Too bad Denny Kirk is sold out, did you check cyclemax?

Looks like cycle max has them, I am going to call to verify.:)
Good luck! Make sure you order the "Rear Accessory Harness" (#K3230 on CycleMax's site) you need it for the trailer lights and any other rear accessories you add later.
i have a rivco hitch , very light weight and wasnt to hard to install ive used it twice so far and have no problems with it http://www.goldwingonline.com/products/2012_13_Goldwing_GL1800_Rivco_Trailer_Hitch-679-38.html
Thanks, I ordered one last night. ;)
I called Cyclemax and talked to a really nice gal. I told her I wanted to verify they had the hitch I wanted in stock? She asked for the part# and verified that they do have it in stock! I asked approx. delivery time and she asked where I live and she told me two business days! Yes, I immediately ordered the hitch and now just have to wait for delivery.
I have the bustec, the Kury was not available when I got mine. I am very glad I got the bushtec. I like it more better than the Kury.

I hope I can figure out how to do it right the first time. Going to start the job tonight when I get home from work. Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated. It there is one thing I know for sure, Kuryakyn stuff does not have the best instructions included.
the hardest part was trying to stick the rods up through to the top with out pinching any wires everything else was fairly easy and i forgot the wiring connector was another diffecult job trying to find a spot under the seat for that big connector good luck!
Ok, just got done installing the Kury hitch. Took me two hours, not bad considering I had no help and had never did one before.
