Have a question - not been able to find a solution yet - maybe one of you can help!
My 2012 Goldwing has a built in Garmin GPS. I want to be able to plan trips on my computer, and then transfer them to the bike, which is done on a micro SD card. Honda tells me that I have to use the Honda Trip Planner software (free on line). I have tried it, and it does work, but it has very limited options and capabilities on it.
I would like to use Garmin's Base Camp which is a fantastic product, but here is the problem: You have to first load Base Camp with a map (purchased), and the only way to unlock the map is to plug your GPS into the computer - they do this so that it registers with a Garmin product, and the map will then only work with the one GPS that it is registered to!
Given that you cannot plug in the Wing's built in GPS to the computer, here is my question: how can I load and unlock a map (US & Canada City Wide) on base camp without connecting it to a GPS, as I believe that once that is done it should be possible to send the route to the Goldwing on a micro SD card.
Suggestions on how to get around this problem would be appreciated by not only me, but everybody who has the built in GPS on their Goldwing!
Thanks. :)

you have to make a folder in your documents like garmin then in that folder make one named gpx and with your sd card in your computer and on the honda site you plan your route then follow the directions to transfer to your folder then to your sd card does that help?

Thanks, that is exactly what I have been doing, and it works fine. However, my problem is that I want to plan the trip on Base Camp, not the Honda Trip Planner, which is not very good. So how do i load and unlock a map onto Base Camp that I can export a trip by SD card to the Goldwing?

I have used the Base Camp program but I prefer the Mapsource program. If you PM me an email address I will send you a GPX file as a test. If the test file works for your GPS I will then explain how to get the Mapsource program and some free maps that should make you happy. This is a site that has routable maps for Garmin GPS's for free. http://www.openstreetmap.org/
The maps from here will work with Mapsource to create your GPX files. Just in case you like Base Camp better they will work just as well with Base Camp.

I made some routes from a map I downloaded from there for My Daughter an Son-in-Law to tour all over Ireland, and they worked just fine.

well i recieved a email from garmin here is the reply--
Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I would be happy to assist you with your questions. The Honda Goldwing navigation device is not compatible with Basecamp. You may be able to use Honda Trip Planner software for planning routes for you device. If you have additional questions please let us know.

Ride planner - Tourstart

I have a web page www.tourstart.org where you can plan your rides and transfer to e.g. TomTom & Garmin's Zumo as well as other models. When a route is created in the Ride Planner then it can be transferred by using the Garmin Communicator.
I have not much experience in transferring to a Gold Wing SatNav, and how it works with the CF card and how to import to the SatNav.
So, if you and other GW riders will like to be our testers, then we grant free access to our Pro functions as well as our Android and iPhone app. Please feel free to contact me on jap@tourstar.org
Thanks
