I took the carbs off my gl1000, bought 4 new kits, rebuilt them. The bike has never been so fast, a real rocket, no backfire, no hesitation. Had to use the throttle to start when it warmed up but it idled good. Ok, road it 5 miles checked the plugs and it was LEAN, the left 2 were as white as notebook paper, the right 2 had a little color. Pulled them off reset the float level a little richer like 20mm instead of 21mm, same thing. Check all intakes no vacume leaks, checked the cutoff which is new everything, ok. Pulled the carbs apart again found out the metering rods were totally different than the OEM that was originally in it. The jets that came with the kit were not marked in anyway, just on the the little bag they came in, so i cleaned all the original parts and re-intalled them. I still have a very lean condition on the left side, float level at 21mm, backfires going down the road runs like garbage. Carb #771A just what came on the bike from the factory. It has run this way since i've had it and still has a bad starter clutch. Sorry to be so long winded, any idea's?:?
