My friend's brother has an '81 GL1100 Standard with a Vetter fairing, bags and trunk. He is looking to sell the bike because he cannot afford to have the stator replaced. I tested the stator myself and at 3000RPM it was only putting out about 7V AC (should be over 50V AC). The bike is in good shape overall and had new Honda exhaust installed in the mid to late 90's.
Here are some pics.
The timing belts were replaced recently. It has 2 brand new Dunlops on it. It starts and seems to run fine, however it is not charging so it doesn't run too long.
He is asking $1200 for it, and the bike is located near Coldwater, Ontario, Canada. If anyone is seriously interested in it, send me a PM and I will give you his phone number.
I am only doing this to help out a friend, and maybe get someone on the forum a descent bike.
Not sure if he even knows about it. He doesn't have a computer so he doesn't have access to this great forum. It might be a little over his head mechanically.
Its a nice bike but they are getting cheaper allthe time.. the stator is going to be an expensive repair even using the poor boy method.
I guess what I am trying to say is this bike will take time to sell. It is going to require someone who not only wants a wing but really wants THIS wing.
UPDATE: The '81 Wing is no longer for sale. The owner decided to keep it and fix it with the help of a forum member. I heard he is very pleased to have it running again.
