Okay there seems to be some really smart wingers here... I bought a 81 interstate a few months back... a buddy of mine who is also on this board bought a 82 interstate.. both 1100..... we been riding together and talkin and watching.. seems the 82 he has runs about 500 rpms lower then my 81... at the same speed.. wondering what could be the reason for this.. does the 82 have taller gear then the 81??? or could there be something else... thanks in advance for your answers...

Well spotted. The gearing changes were to the 1983 models, but your friend could have an 83 model bought in 82 (alloy wheels instead of Comstars) as the USA always gets the next years model early, with the taller gearing.

The 82 had smaller wheels so that might make a difference to the revs as well. Read Steve Saunders history of the Goldwing to get an idea of the changes here;-

Smaller wheels would *increase* the RPMs of the '82 relative to the '81... Must be taller gears.
