Incompetent amateur mechanic needs help:

Don't ask how I did this. The socket wrench and socket are stuck between the bracket on the swingarm and the saddlebag stay. I made the mistake of sliding the socket over the bolt before finding the female threads (by hand) with the bolt. Now the bolt has slid back into the socket -- which is too long. So the bolt is too long to come out of the socket, and I can't push it up against the female threads.

I've tried everything I know except removing the top nut of the shock, and I'm not sure that would help. FYI: The three bolts on the final drive are attached (finger tight) to the shaft. The axle is out, and the tire is resting on two 2X4's.

Anyone have any ideas? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Looks like you need to remove the saddlebag frame, or at least loosen it enough to get the ratchet out.

Yupp..... it's not that tough. You don't have to remove the saddlebag bracket totally but just loosen it enough to wiggle off the ratchet. You'll want to start with the rear bracket that goes around the wheel. 2 bolts on each side and a tap or two with a rubber mallet to loosen it.... out it comes. The rest just need to be loosened.

Thanks. I'll see if I can get it loose enough to work the wrench and socket out. I was worried about removing the saddlebag bracket without opening a whole new can of worms. Thanks again for the advice.

Typically, I found it easiest to remove the rear wheel with the left saddlebag frame removed anyway. It's just a few extra bolts and makes wheel removal really easy.

Yeah, I can understand that, now that I've done it once. Don't know why I was so paranoid about it....
