:coollep:Am trying to find a speedo for my 82 Asppy and have been told that there is something wired into the speedo for the self canceling turn signals, thought all that stuff was under the false tank and on the front forks:? Anyone heard of this :?just inquiring so that I don't buy the wrong one.

Thanks Winger 82:11brown:

I believe there are two speed sensors in the speedo on an '82, one for the turn signal cancel and the other for the rear air suspension. I recall mention of the turn signal cancel control box being under the false tank.

Over 15 mph, and no air in the rear shocks, light in the tach glows red.

The short answer is you will need to ensure your replacement came from an '82 or '83.

:coollep:Thanks for the help, knew about the suspension light in the tach but did not realize the speedo had anything to do with the canceling unit

The speedo sure does have something to do with the canceling unit. It is what measures your distance for the canceling device.

The air pressure warning light on the '83 tachometer is gone, it became a Overdrive (OD) light.

:coollep:Silicon Sam Thanks; all this info I'm getting is being stored. When I read about the speedo being wire to the cancel unit I was really confused just for the reason I can turn on the turn signal at a stop and without moving forward cancel them by turning the bars or a slight tip of the bike. Don't know if they should work like that being stopped but they do. :?

Thanks again

The speedo wire is so when you put your turn signals on on the freeway, change lanes they cancel after X number of feet. Since you won't be turning at all, just leaning a little. Also keeps the old codgers from driving 35 miles with their blinkers on.

From what I understand, there are 3 things that cancel the turn signals. Distance, turning the bars, or leaning the bike over. That's what I recall anyway.

Silicone Sam,

You have converted your pressure warning light to an OD light?

You have my attention! Would you want to give up your secrets on how you did this? I would love to know. I am always looking for 6[suP]th[/suP]!! Hahaha

I would not use the pressure light, I would put in a new one on the dash.

He didn't convert it, 83s came that way.

Well I just learned my "thing of the day"!

I would love to have that indicator. Every once and a while I still do looking for that elusive 6th gear! hahaha

:waving:The rear suspensionwarning light is in the tach. The is no speed sensor in the speedometer for the rear suspension as the warning light is activated by a pressure switch. Since the rear suspension on the '83 Standard and Interstate can be run 0-57 PSI there was no need for the warning light so it was changed to an OD (overdrive) light which is on when in 5th gear.

:waving:The main difference between the '82 and '83 speedometer is the '82 only went to 85 MPH and '83being the only GL1100 speedo that went to 150 MPH.
