82 GL110 Brake Issue

Afternoon All. First my apologies for lack of participation lately. Between all the drama at home and the online radio station, I have been rather hammered. Needless to say all it well, Brandi sends her best.



Ok, here is the issue. I had two tires put on yesterday. Now on my bike, you barely had to pull the lever before the front brakes began to pull. Now, there is half travel before there is any "noticable" stopping force. I did bleed both front calipers, although one at a time. Should I try to do both sides at the same time maybe?



Second, I notice now that when I am hard over on the handle bars after backing up, I lose all brake pressure up front. I know the res is full, and the pressure comes back just fine. What would cause this and how da hell do I fix it?

I dont understand why the brakes would suddenly have a problem after a tire change . Did you pull the wheels or take it to a shop ?



Either way to me it sounds as though you need more brake bleeding . I would continue to bleed the front system . Once you feel you have gotten the air out at both the calipers Then I would pull the handle in to about a quarter inch of the bars and tie it in that p[osition overnight . That procedure seems to let tiny bubbles work back up into the master cyclinder . Hopefully you will get a few more ideas soon .

Sounds like air perhaps.
What exactly did you do with the brakes? I never do anything with them when I change a tire that would let air in.

I only push the pads back away from the rotors enough to get calipers off, I never open the system unless changing the fluid also.
It does take a few pumps to get the pads pushed back out to the rotors after they been pushed in like that, I suppose you did that and still have the problem?

If the system was empty for some reason and let air in you might want to loosen the banjo bolt at master and pump a couple times to get any air out of it, or maybe tie back the brake lever over night and let it sit. Be sure to not get fluid on any paint/plastic!

I took it to a shop to be done as I didn't have time to take the wheels off myself (nor the jack stands/lift). I am going to take it back tomorrow and see what the deal is.
