Can you change the gear ratios on a older wing? Seems pretty low for a highway cruiser, I'm always looking for another gear.

The gearing was changed in 82, I think to give more pull on hills in top gear and avoid all that changing down. I think a differential from an 80 or 81 model fitted to an 82-83 reduces the revs in top so you won't be looking for another gear.

A lot of owners preferrred the gearing on the early 1100 for town riding, but the 82 & 83 models were apparently better for the open roads.

My 81 seems to want another gear also. I think it's taching right at 4,000rpm at 65.

My '83 tachs at 3700 RPM at 70 MPH.

My '86 fuel injected also runs around 3650-3700 at 70mph.

Not sure about the diff swap Eamonn. I was under the impression that it was gears only that changed in 1982. I think the diff stayed the same. I could be wrong of course so feel free to correct me if I am.

Lets change that to 4,000 rpms at 60 mph..........not 65. Sure seems to be geared low for a cruiser.

My 83 turns 4000 rpm at 70 mph. I find myself looking for another too.
