Just did tons of work on this bike. runs ok, but I think it can run better. Sometimes when I start it, it will backfire once. Never done that before. Also, i took the plugs out and they are super clean. I set the pilot screws at the default 3 turns out from seated. I cant find any vacuum leaks. Does it sound like its running lean? What advice to you guys have?

Lean running doesn't normally cause backfiring, but running too rich might. Did you look at the spark plugs yet for clues?

Plugs are super clean. Too clean, I think. That is what got me thinking is running lean. The backfiring is super minimal. Only did it a couple times.

The pilot screws are for idle only.. Too lean with these screws might cause a hesitation or a "pop" backup through the intake, but the plugs would not be a goodindication of idle condition (unless you spend all of the time idled).. If, in fact, it is lean during riding, it is more likely a float level and/or other fuel delivery issues.

Thanks. I don't idle much. I guess I need to double check the float levels.
