Is there a trick to lining up starter to reinstall..I can not get gear on....

the gear hangs in the chain to install. sometimes its best to take the gear out of the chain, and clean up both splines so it goes in easy. oil the oring. you will get it. wiggle wiggle.

You just have to hold your mouth right. :smiler:
If you are changing the starter and not the gear sometimes they don't fit.

I used a strong magnet on the back of the motor to hold the gear in place. Ace Hardware had two different strengths. Took the gear out and made sure it slid onto the starter before trying to put it back in the motor.

I took starter off extra engine, The splne shaft was different size......changed gear and went on easy-----how many other things do I have to learn at the school of hard Knocks.
