Hello, and thanks in advance. I have a '82 GL1100i That is overheating. Around town it seems OK. Over 60 The temp starts to climb.Fan & temp guage is good. Radiator looks clean (viewed through bottom inlet). Replaced thermostatwith Napa 101. Stil Getting hot. I looked at the water pump and the impeller looks good and has no shaft play. I was baffled. So I replaced both head gaskets. They both looked good (no leaks). I'm still baffled.

Sounds like a clogged radiator to me.

Did you burp the radiator? An air pocket can get stuck at the top, especially if you've drained/filled it recently. This happened to me after doing my timing belts.

Also check to be sure your radiator fan is operating normally. Should come on about halfway up the gauge.

Do you really have 300k miles on the bike?? I'd suggest the radiator is plugged, like Dave pointed out.
