:?ok everbody. Im kind of lost. I am have issues with my 82 1100 interstate down shifting when the motor is hot. Perticullarly getting into 1st gear from second. I really have to stomp on it and sometimes i have to reach down and manually do it. Any Ideas? Its not making any noise other than sometime it sounds like its not all the way in gear so it " pops ". Any thing I should worry about?

Thanks

Jason

wha oil are you running? how old is it? do you have floorboards with h/t shifter? have you already tried readjusting the clutch cable?

I dont remember what brand oil. I changed it last year before it went to storage. I have put about 1000 miles on it this year. I have fllorboards and heel/toe shifter. I dont really know how to adjust the clutch.

hell/toe shifter give serious problems, we will need a picture of your setup to help you to adjust it, it could be causing your shifting problems. (thats why i hate them).
your oil is at least 6 months old, its gone even if you haven't put miles on it. change is as soon as you can.

Terp here William_86, I'm a little stupid but here is my question, you say above about changing your oil, is this the final drive oil, or engine oil? I have same problem downshifting to first gear. What kind of oil should I get? thanks Terp

The bronze bushing in the heel/toe shifter can wobble and the play stops positive shifting; particularly 1st to second.

I bought a brand new heel/toe shifter and that one shifts great.

Your engine oil also lubes the clutch plates, it is a wet clutch...

If the oil is old or dirty, it can create shifting problems...

Having said that, I suspect the heal/toe MAY need adjustment/repair also...

If you don't feel like it is the heal/toe shifter, or if your oil is old or dirty, put 1/3 can of

seafoam into the engine oil and run it for40 miles or so, then change oil/filter...
