Hooked up the fairing and got the radio to scratch.So I started to make an attempt to get to the antenna or better put the insides where the radio and all the wiring resides.

How do you get to whats inside the fairing? I think I should start by cleaning as much as I can get to.

I got the right side cover off and got to the wiring in there and got the radio out the left side.Which reveals a ton of wiring.Using a flashlight I can see it looks pretty good in there since 1983!

So the speakers work.The radio works.Seems like the antenna is not connected maybe.Whadaythink?

Does the forum have a write up on tackling the radio?
This radio is the Honda/Clarion radio.

Get the install manual for the Clarion II system. It's best to do the install with the fairing off the bike as you may need to drill some mounting holes if this is a first time install of the radio into that fairing.

O.K. downloaded the #2 manual.
Played around with the radio some today.
Soldered two wires that had been rubbed raw of their insulation.
Maybe I'll hook up a 4 ohm speaker and see what I get.
Would it need an antenna to get "something" as far as reception goes.Seems like I'd be getting something,if only weak,with no antenna.

O.K. so now what can I use to make a MacGiver antenna?

Any old car antenna from the junkyard will do for testing purposes. Just won't work for the cb if you have one.

My Type II Clarion will hiss/scratch when it is cold, then five minutes later it works. In cold weather, even longer. Go figure.
