I'm removing the right side exhaust so that I can change the head gasket. The clamp
on the crossover pipe is very loose but I can't break the two halves apart. As an
alternative can I undo everything on the left side as well and then remove both pipes
as a unit?

Yes you can do that. The pipes will drop down enough for you to keep working, tip the mufflers up at the back so the front end drops down more and out of the way.

Just be sure you replace the exhaust gaskets.

Thanks. It worked. And a few gentle taps with the mallet and a block of wood popped the two halves apart. Gaskets in hand.
