Hello all,

I suspect my steering head bearing may need a twist or two. Every bump I go over I can feel through the handlebars. It seems as if something is a little loose and causing me to feel the bumps coming up through the handlebars.

I even upgraded my fork springs to progressive and changed the fork oil.

I am just going to give the bearing a few turns for good measure. I will have to use a drift punch as I do not have the specialized tool.

Just wondering if anybody else has been down this road before.

Thanks,

Ed

If the bearings aren't shagged then you should be able to adjust them easily enough. You shouldn't be able to give them a "few turns", more likely half a turn or so. When you think you have it about right, loosen the nut off about a quarter turn, you need to do this because when you tighten the locking tab it puts a bit more torque on the adjuster nut and this will bring it down just right instead of overcooking it.

Thanks Jason,

The guy at the local Honda dealership said something along those lines. They don't work on the a bike as old as mine anymore. I like saving the money and doing it myself. So far I have been doing my fix ups right. :)

I will be sure not to over cook it.
