'83 gl-1100 exhaust

I am learning how difficult it is to locate a replacement exhaust for my '83 1100 interstate. I'm about "exhausted" searching. The original or stock exhaust was in rough shape (chrome pitted etc.) when i purchased it... That got replaced with a "homemade exhaust" with parts from the auto parts store. And slide in baffles from Dennis Kirk.... 2.4 in. dia.exhaust pipe with 3in. dia.chrome extentions...!! The lady of the house says it's still a little to loud to her liking!.. Any way to to tone down the decibels a little?... I suggested ear plugs. But you all know the outcome of such a suggestion.. need help getting the right exhaust. That will happen over this winter. i'm having to much fun right now. Forgot to mention: Baffles are of the straight thru variety.. small dia. center hole.. any problems with this? I havn't done it but some of the members here have got the stock mufflers off Harleys. There are a lot of stock Harley mufflers availabe and you can get them pretty cheap and they look pretty easy to install. That may be a way to go, do forum search for harley exhaust.

the closest thing i know of for a 83 stock exhust syestm is a motad stainless steel. i think there out of chiago ill. . a bit pricey but--- its good for a life time. at present , i`ve got a 82 year jardine system on my 83 interstate. didnt list a 83 system. a little louder , but a low mellow type sound . its been on sence mid 06 . still looks good.from what i hear on the mac system--the chorm sucks after a short time and is quite a bit louder. best of luck with this.

I put mufflers off of a 2005 HD bagger on my 81 1100. They are not much louder than the original honda pipes, cost a lot lessand have worked perfectly for a couple of years now with no sign any problems.

This is a link to the original thread when I first put them on with a couple of pictures.

Are the baffles wrapped with fiberglass? If not, you can add exhaust fiberglass and it should help. I just ordered some and will be putting it in next weekend.

AndyB.. dont think i can wrap the type of baffles i have. And they are much larger diameter than stock.. Baffles are Dennis Kirk~ straight thru type.. solid canister..

HD pipes or canisters on a wing will be too loud for you, don’t waist your time or money on them
